We are convinced that games are the easiest way to learn a language - and much else besides. Here's why:
- Games are by nature fun and entertaining, so there is little chance for young people to grow bored with difficult points of grammar, lexis and phonetics.
- Through play you can achieve great teaching results, fast, and the experience is fascinating for teachers and pupils alike.
- Play has a unifying social dimension: shared activity establishes bonds and mutual understanding between family members, schoolmates, young and old, and people of varied dispositions.
- Educational play simultaneously develops the mind in areas such as memory, attention and concentration, logical thought, creativity, and imagination.
- Games are a very useful approach to teaching children with learning difficulties, and leveling the playing field in mixed-ability classes.
- Material is far more likely to stick in young people's minds if it has been learned in a playful way.
- Game playing aids personality development because it requires social interaction, modes of behavior and cooperation. The element of challenge brings out traits such as persistence, patience, purposefulness, and commitment - building blocks of strong character and mind.
- Playful experience can be a key to unlocking deeper talents and skills.
- We think those are plenty of reasons to take play seriously!
